Review: Book of Legends

Posted by Iseulde on Jan 30, 2009 in Video Games

I don’t know if I should be thankful that these games are so short you can finish them quickly, or sad that these are actually charged $19.99 when they can be finished almost within the trial hour… Regardless, here’s another Reflexive Arcade game that I finished in the past couple of days. I guess with our luggage finally arriving, living amongst boxes makes me want to play more quickie games than usual. However, this is a good one, and I was pleasantly surprised and amused from the first minute to the last.

Review: Mushroom Age

Posted by Iseulde on Jan 24, 2009 in Video Games

Just because my new computer is finally set up and going, I decided to try out some Reflexive games ’cause this computer can actually access the website (my old laptop was having trouble loading the site for some reason).  I finished the Mortimer’s Time Paraodox first, and then decided to try the Mushroom Age.  Boy, was that a mistake.  This is perhaps the worst seek-and-find game I’ve had to endure from Reflexive for a while and it just makes me mad thinking about it.  Yeah, it’s that bad, so be forewarned.

Review: Mortimer Beckett and the Time Paradox

Posted by Iseulde on Jan 24, 2009 in Video Games

“Hey, this game is for kids, and it’s not geeky!!”  Yeah, yeah, I know that.  But truth to be told, the games at Reflexive Arcade are fun, addictive, and while you hate to admit it, you can’t get enough of it.  Otherwise, why do you think they keep churning out more and more games?  The Reflexive Arcade games can generally be breaking down into several simple categories: seek-and-find, puzzles/arcade, “dash” games, and others.  Of course, they also combine them from time to time, and hope to come out with one that you would actually like it and keep buying it.  This game is one of those games.

So before I go on, let me just go on record and say that yes, I like Reflexive Arcade games (well, some of it), and yes, I will keep reviewing them whenever I finish one.  They will generally be breaking down into the similar review style that I will do with this one, because ultimately, this isn’t some hardcore game that took them over years to make (and for those it really deserve a thorough, detailed review, possibly from both myself and Taro!), but one of those fun quickie games that can be sum up in no more than 5 sentences.   Still, they deserve some thoughtful review, and I will try my best to give them to you.  With that said….

Lara Croft: Feminist Raider

Posted by Bethie on Jan 13, 2009 in Video Games

So here’s something that caught my eye and has been rattling in my brain for several days. Evidently Eidos has decided Lara Croft needs yet another makeover. She needs to be entirely retooled, much as they did to Batman the comparison was, and she needs to be more female friendly.

Review: Rock Band 2 (PS3)

Posted by Iseulde on Jan 10, 2009 in Video Games

It amazes me that, while the rhythm-based games have always been a solid genre of video games, it didn’t really hit it big until the last quarter of 2007.  I have always been critical in terms of the guitar-based games such as Guitar Hero, since it, to me, isn’t the same as Dance Dance Revolution, which gears more toward rhythm and sports, so I never thought I’d really get into Rock Band too much.  Boy, was I wrong.

Review: Final Fantasy IV DS

Posted by Bethie on Jan 6, 2009 in Video Games

I have to admit, when I heard they were remaking FFIV for the DS and saw the trailers, I was excited. FFIV has always held a special place in my heart, since it is the first Final Fantasy I ever played, and the first that really and truly sucked me in. It was the first game I had to constantly keep playing, and the first I beat. So the thought of it getting the spruced up treatment made me all a flutter and I couldn’t wait to sell Squeenix more of my soul so that I could play it. Of course that also meant I would really notice the changes that they had brought to it, and trust me, there are changes.
